celebrating america 2019
In the spring of the 2018-2019 school year we put on a dance showcase entitled "Celebrating America," where students in grades ranging from Kindergarten to Fifth grade performed dances to patriotic music. Students worked in their electives with Mrs. Labadie to learn and perform these dances, and the dedication to their learning is obvious from the product.

highlights from the nutcracker 2019
In the Winter 2019-2020 school year students were fortunate enough to collaborate with advanced Orchestra and Band students to put on a performance, highlighting selections from "The Nutcracker." Below are pieces from the evening performances, in both December 2018 and January 2019, featuring students in kindergarten through fifth grade. The music you hear being played (with the exception of "The Battle" and "Mother Ginger") were all played live by our advanced Orchestra and Band students, who are all fourth and fifth grade students. This was a rigorous learning experience for all students involved, and we are so proud of all of our students' hard work, as well as of their end product.
"The Nutcracker" has become quite the beloved tradition here at Powell Elementary!

pieces of gold 2020
The Powell Dance Ensemble was accepted into Pieces of Gold for the 2019-2020 school year. Pieces of Gold is an annual arts extravaganza produced by the Wake County Public School System and Wake Education Partnership. Students and teachers work throughout the year to produce performances that support the curriculum as well as entertain an enthusiastic audience. A group of 20 talented students in grades 4 and 5 performed on the stage at the Memorial Auditorium in Raleigh NC on March 4, 2020 in front of an audience of 1000+. They performed a creative hip-hop dance titled "Home of the Brave." The video below is of their dress rehearsal.
spring showcase 2021
The 2020-2021 school year came with many challenges, but students persevered to meet goals in dance. My fourth quarter elective students worked hard every day, whether virtual or in-person, and were able to produce a wonderful virtual performance for students and families to enjoy. Below are the videos of all the dances that were included, with performers ranging from kindergarten to fifth grade.
